Interesting sights of Northern Cyprus

There are various rumors about Northern Cyprus, because of which many lovers of travel and relaxation on the warm sea are somewhat doubtful about the possibility of spending a vacation on this island. Often such fears are caused by myths and prejudices. However, in practice, Northern Cyprus, like other parts of the island, is hospitable and ready to offer tourists a pleasant holiday. Despite global political differences, Northern Cyprus is an excellent budget holiday destination.
To visit this republic, you can hitchhike from the southern part of the island or get through Turkey. Both options do not require an additional visa. Upon entry, your passport is stamped or a receipt is issued, which must be presented upon departure. The route from Turkey to Northern Cyprus is possible both by ferry from Alanya and by plane from Istanbul, Ankara and Antalya.
All cities in Northern Cyprus have two names: Turkish and Cypriot. One of the amazing places in the republic is the city of Famagusta (Gazimagusha), which attracts tourists with its abandoned and mysterious appearance. His castle, where Othello killed Desdemona, hides a tragic story that beckons visitors.
Upon entering the Old Town, tourists are greeted by the Freedom Monument (or Victory Monument) statue, which creates a surreal impression. This monument depicts the military and civilians who died for the freedom of the republic in the hostilities of 1974. The figures create a pyramid, and at its top is a bust of the first leader of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Another amazing place, reminiscent of a terrible scenario, is the Dead City - Varosha. After liberation from the British colonial system in the early 1970s, these lands flourished. However, due to hostilities, residents fled to the south, leaving their property behind, and were unable to return after the end of the war. Today Varosha is surrounded by a fence, and tourists are not allowed far, creating a mysterious impression. Opposite, next to the Dead City, the Arkin Palm Beach Hotel adds a touch of tranquility to this abandoned place.
Old castles are another interesting feature of the island. On the territory of Northern Cyprus there are three ancient castles, one of which became famous thanks to the history of the island state and legends about knights. Kantara is one of them, rising at the foot of the Karpas Peninsula. Inside the castle you can enjoy stunning views of the Mesaoria Valley and the Cyrene Mountains, and feel like you are part of the incredible legends that come to life within the walls of this ancient structure.
