Driving and fines for violations in Turkey

Turkey is popular among tourists from all over the world both for holidays and for travel. Rchen often go on such trips by private car or rent vehicles at rental points in Turkey. However, traffic on Turkish roads can sometimes frighten foreign drivers, creating the impression of chaos and a general lack of adherence to rules. In this regard, the country's authorities decided to take measures to improve safety and restore order on the roads, and in 2023 new fines for violating traffic rules were introduced to increase driver awareness. Even law-abiding tourists should know about the sanctions adopted in Turkey, we will talk about them in this article.
It is worth noting that in Turkey there are many cameras installed on the roads, so most of the fines are issued automatically. At the same time, warnings are installed in front of each camera that this section of the road is monitored using a video camera. A fine can also be issued by a traffic police officer. He issues a receipt that you can pay on the spot and receive a check. If the fine is paid within 30 days, a discount of 25% is provided. If the fine is not paid on time, a penalty of 5% is charged monthly on the amount of the fine. In this case, the maximum amount to be paid cannot exceed twice the amount of this fine.
